The Association of Pakistani Physicians in North America: APPNA manages numerous programs in Pakistan in the healthcare sector. They played a pivotal role in launching Pakistan's first ever international Telemedicine, Skardu Project, with us. The association is working closely to promote tele-medicine in Pakistan. It is also playing a pivotal role in promoting better healthcare in rural Pakistan. APPNA provides the expert medical advice and opinions for the medical cases over the internet to treat patients. They are also helping the project by arranging the training sessions and free medical camps. Information Society Innovation Fund: ISIF is a grants program aimed at stimulating creative solutions to ICT development needs in the Asia Pacific region, placing particular emphasis on the role of the Internet in social and economic development in the region, towards the effective development of the Information Society throughout.The Information Society Innovation Fund (ISIF) funded eleven projects in whole asia in 2009 to extend ICT infrastructure services. Our project "Capacity-building for mobile tele-healthcare in rural areas" is one of them which got selected to be funded by this programme. NUST-School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science: SEECS is one of the leading Universities in Pakistan, which has established a dedicated team of professors and students to conduct R&D for tele-medicine based ICT solutions.In addition to the academia, the institute has dedicated five IT Research Centers in the field of ICT. SEECS also has Pakistan’s first and foremost Center High Performance Scientific Computing (CHPSC) (http://hpc.niit.edu.pk). THE institute is providing all the research and development support in order to implement the project. The development in terms of technologies so far is carried out in High Performance (HPC) Lab in NUST-SEECS. With this experience more health related project can be launched. The United St ates Agency for International Development: USAID joined with the the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) to support the joint Pakistan-U.S. Science and Technology Cooperation Program. This program, which is being implemented by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences on the U.S. side, is intended to increase the strength and breadth of cooperation and linkages between Pakistan scientists and institutions with counterparts in the United States. Over 116 projects were submitted and only 19 got funded in this hotly contested grant. Off which our was the only one in rural healthcare using ICT. UM healthcare Trust: UMTrust was established in May 2004. It was built in memory of Mrs. Umrana Mumtaz who die of cancer in August 2003 in Pakistan. One of her last wishes was that a medical clinic be built for the poor in rural Mardan Distt. to provide affordable healthcare to the community. To fulfil her wishes, a trust was established in her memory, and land was donated from their ancestral estate. The construction of the clinic was initiated in mid 2004.This project is being under progress at the UM Healthcare Medical Facility at the Village Zahidabad, in rural Mardan District of NWFP Province of Pakistan. The facility already has high speed internet access, provided and supported by Cybernet, a national leading ISP. and updated info.
